I am getting back on the hunt for new vintage fabrics folks, check out Material Girl today as five new beauty’s had been added for your inspiration!

This is my personal favourite and nearly didn’t make it on the site due to my own unhealthy obsession with 1950s vintage fabric. I would love to see this one as seat cushion on kitchen chairs or maybe even a toiletry bag on the back of my bed room door. But alas this vintage fabric and many other are  available for sale from £9 for half a meter including free post and packing!

It’s the news you’ve all been waiting for! I am currently up to my neck in saw dust preparing to open the Spinster’s Emporium shop for early October. Those who have followed our actions closely will know that I am prone to getting itchy feet and have moved studio’s 4 times in 2 years! This move is for good and I am determined to stay put for the next 3 years! We have moved to what will soon be relaunched as Hopkinson’s Gallery opposite the train station on Station Street in Nottingham. For those that know the old building (formally know as the Arts Organisation) we be please to hear it is under new management and packed full of new residents!  Spinster’s Emporium, Waste Studio and Reclaimed amongst others have taken over the first floor with a view to making the building worthy of your attention. More details on what the space will cater for and What Spinster’s Emporium will be stocking and supplying as the weeks go by, but for know take a peek of the Space under construction!

How the building looks fro the outside at the moment, the 2nd Gallery on the 1st floor and Spinster’s Studio, the floor is being sanded as we speak!

Things have been hectic as always for me with Spinster’s and the summer has been no different! Trying to keep you upto date and document the day to day life as a Spinster is a interesting task. Take this Spinster sign for example, a long over due necessity for a craft business established for over 18 months, but it became urgent a few weeks ago before I commenced my travels to hold a stall at Vintage at Goodwood festival.

I am lucky enough to be in the possession of a overhead projector! I stole it from my friend Norman about 12 months ago and am ashamed to say never used it! But how else to you create a 2 1/2 foot sewing pattern of a doily logo? I dusted it down and set about drawing around the projected image on the wall.

I wish I could tell you that my own blood, sweat and tears went into the making of this sign, but i am pleased to say that my mega mate martha came to my rescue once again. She reminded me that the festival was a day away and there was no point in making a sign when i hadn’t even sorted out the stock! Martha did a sterling job and the sign went down a storm on the stall, thanks mate!

Everyone that know Spinster’s Emporium must know by now im a fan of a good floral vintage fabric!  I think this is maybe my specialist area, but not on purpose I am drawn to them and them to I, and what corkers i have laid my grubby hands on recently! Ive have returned from the glorious Vintage at Goodwood! Work hard play hard and all that, this was the first festival  that i have taken Spinster’s too, the days were long but fun and the evenings were filled with jiving and 80s disco’s!

It was great to meet customers face to face for a change, I simply cant wait for the studio shop to open in September. I jumped on board the Goodwood ship about 2 weeks before the event, our space was small to say the least but we made some big waves! We sold huge amounts of vintage fabrics and vintage wallpapers, so much so i have been on a buying trip this week, so keep checking back to get you hands on the new clobber!
